Vegan beauty products are a big deal right now. This charts a movement in green beauty that is becoming more and more common. What does it mean to be a vegan beauty product? Sometimes people confuse vegan with being cruelty free, but it’s not the same thing. We’ll get more in-depth with this important concept coming up. First let’s define vegan as it relates to beauty.

A true vegan beauty product doesn’t contain any animal or animal by-product ingredients. For example that includes ingredients that come from bees, like honey or beeswax.

Let’s look deeper into some of the facts about vegan sunscreen and also what it means to be a cruelty free sunscreen.

The Best Vegan Sunscreen

We wanted to come up with a vegan sunscreen that didn’t have any animal or animal by-products in it. That’s why our new Mineral Sunscreen is only the best plant derived ingredients and is considered vegan. The main active ingredients in our sunscreen are non nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which are both considered physical sunblocks. They will provide superior protection in blocking out the harmful UVA/UVB rays of the sun.

Going further into the ingredients of this sunscreen, we also wanted it to be beneficial for your skin outside of being an excellent sunscreen. Your skin will benefit from plant-based ingredients like aloe vera, which is going to soothe and soften the skin. Aloe vera also has antioxidant and antibacterial properties which are also perfect for skin health. When it comes to plant based skincare, aloe vera has been proven a beneficial ingredient for a very long time. People have used it around the world for skincare since the start of commercial beauty products.

There are also a variety of skin softening oils in our sunscreen that are plant based. Those include sunflower oil, sesame oil, and sweet almond oil. All of these are going to feel lightweight on the skin with a silky smooth finish that is going to make your skin feel exquisitely supple. Nourishing oils that feel amazing on your skin each time you use this sunscreen, which should be every day for the health and wellness of your skin were so vital to our product when we created it. Don’t you just hate sunscreen that is sticky and greasy? Our formula is unique because it’s lightweight, with a beautifully sheer finish.

Cocoa butter is also included in our sunscreen because of its fatty acid content that helps improve skin’s elasticity. The end result of using our sunscreen is less sagging, more resilient skin that is better prepared to fight off premature aging.

What About Glycerin?

There is also glycerin in our sunscreen, but rest assured it’s considered vegetable based glycerin. This is the ingredient “ethylhexylglycerin” that is made from coconut oil. Many beauty products contain animal fat based glycerin, but we felt it was important to make sure that our glycerin came from the plant world only.

Cruelty Free Sunscreen

Our Mineral Sunscreen is also considered cruelty-free, which means that we didn’t test it or any of the ingredients on animals. Animal testing is an inhumane process which isn’t necessary anymore to make an exceptional beauty product. We love the fact that all of our skincare products at Sdara Skincare are cruelty-free.

Sometimes people confuse the words vegan with cruelty-free, since they both have to do with animals, but mean separate things when it comes to beauty products. A product that is cruelty free isn’t necessarily vegan and vice versa. You have to look further into whether or not a beauty product is both vegan and cruelty free, if that is something that is important to you.

We also go a step further in our sunscreen to make sure that it’s reef-safe. This usually refers to sunscreen that doesn't contain oxybenzone or octinoxate. Both of those ingredients have been known to cause coral reef bleaching, which can ultimately harm marine life in the oceans. Being reef-safe is vital to the ocean’s ecology because the National Park Service estimates that about 6,000 tons of sunscreen gets into the water supply each year. At Sdara Skincare we definitely didn’t want to be a part of the problem, rather with our reef-safe Mineral Sunscreen we are happy to be part of the solution.
